A GWANDA man has landed in hot soup after allegedly turning a family relationship into a nightmare — dragging his sister-in-law into the bush and raping her, after she rejected his love proposal!
The accused — whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim — appeared briefly before Gwanda provincial magistrate Patience Madondo, facing a rape charge. He was remanded in custody to 28 April for a bail application at the regional court.
According to prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba, the shocking incident occurred in March 2025.
The 28-year-old complainant was walking home from Simbumbumbu Clinic when she bumped into her brother-in-law. After exchanging greetings, they parted ways — or so, she thought.
Unbeknownst to her, the accused allegedly followed behind. Moments later, he reportedly confronted her, made a sickening love proposal and when she refused — the nightmare began.
The court heard that he forcefully dragged her into a nearby bushy area and raped her, leaving her traumatised and broken.
The accused was not asked to plead and investigations are ongoing.
