GWANDA South and Gwanda Tshitaudze legislators have urged traditional leaders, heads of Government departments, and other relevant stakeholders to complement Government efforts in spearheading development in the district.
Gwanda South legislator Cde Omphile Marupi and his Gwanda Tshitaudze counterpart, Cde Fisani Moyo met traditional leaders, heads of Government departments and other development partners to devise a roadmap aimed at improving service delivery.
During the meeting, the rural district development committee sub-committees presented progress reports.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr Marupi said there are many outstanding areas of development that need to be addressed in his constituency.
“There are many developmental issues that need to be tackled in the constituency across all sectors. There is a need for development in the agricultural, health, education, mining and ICT and telecommunications sectors,” he said.
“Gwanda South is in urgent need of water and food for both people and livestock. Our schools need to be capacitated with teachers from ECD up to the secondary level to improve the pass rate.”
Dr Marupi urged traditional leaders to embrace the public-private partnership concept to address outstanding developmental issues.
“We also need to engage community members so that they can adopt best practices to improve their livelihoods,” he said.
Cde Fisani Moyo said Gwanda district is endowed with natural resources that can contribute to its development if fully utilised.
“I am here to work with you as key stakeholders so that we can bring development to our district. Our main focus is to ensure that our district doesn’t remain behind in terms of development,” he said.
“We have to proffer solutions locally before we move on to engage Government and other partners. Let’s first utilise the resources.”
Gwanda District Development Co-ordinator, Ms Nomathemba Ndlovu said it is critical for legislators, heads of Government departments and partners to team up and address developmental issues.
“This is a platform for us to meet with our MPs and update them on our progress and challenges that we are facing. It also gives us an opportunity to give them recommendations on key developmental issues that are affecting the district,” she said.
“There is a need for concerted efforts because we all have one goal which is to bring development to our area. Let’s work together instead of working against each other. The move by our MPs to meet with Government departments shows that they are keen on seeing development.”
