Former AmaZulu coach Cornwall Dube has described Saturday’s Munhumutapa Challenge Cup Round of 32 clash between Gwanda Pirates and Jordan as a battle for regional superiority.

Pirates, representing the Central Region, are hosting Southern Region outfit Jordan in a match that carries more than just a place in the next round at stake.

“It is a battle for superiority. The two teams are fighting for the pride of their regions,” Dube said.

After 25 minutes, neither side had managed to break the deadlock, with the score still 0-0.

Jordan has, however, had to withstand some anxious moments, with goalkeeper Anxious Mutanda emerging as one of the visitors’ standout performers so far.

The match has yet to reach the expected heights, with both teams struggling to establish sustained attacking momentum. Much of the contest has developed into a kicking battle, characterised by hurried build-ups and limited clear-cut opportunities.

Mutanda’s composure between the posts has been particularly important for Jordan as Pirates continue to search for an opening.
