Back by popular demand!
Matabeleland South’s town of Gwanda will play host to a national boxing tournament at the Injanji Waterfront on 28 September.
The Injanji Investment-sponsored tournament organised by veteran coach Clinton Walderman will see more than 105 pugilists from the country’s provinces trading leather on the day. Tomang Pindi, the sponsor of the tournament, said this was the second time they were holding a similar tournament after the one they had in 2017 which was a success.
“We are doing this tournament again because of popular demand and this time around we will have boxers from all provinces battling it out,” said Pindi.
Pindi said he advised other provinces who don’t recognise boxing as an important sport to understand that boxing was a gentleman`s sport that teaches life skills, discipline as well as helps to keep youth off the streets.
Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF)’s Steven Masiyambumbi said the tournament allowed the clubs and the country’s provinces to check their preparedness for the national championships.
“We will be having our national boxing championships in November that will be at Gibbo Stadium and this tournament gives clubs and provinces a chance to prepare for the championships as well as the Olympic Qualifiers for Tokyo 2020.
“We are inviting all boxers, male and female, to take part in this special event,” said Masiyambumbi.
