FORMER Bulawayo City midfielder Ayanda Ncube finally made his Malanti Chiefs debut on Tuesday night, albeit to a losing start lasting 70 minutes in the 0-2 defeat to Young Buffaloes in the 2019 /20 MTN Premier League of Eswatini.
The Magwegwe North-bred star has been in Eswatini for close to about three agonising months in which an international clearance certificate from his parent club kept him on the sidelines before eventually arriving just about two days before the close of the first transfer window period last weekend.
During his waiting period his new side managed just a single win in four outings losing 1-3 to town rivals Piggs Peak Black Swallows, 0-2 to Moneni Pirates and 0-1 to Manzini Sea Birds and managing just one win, 1-0 over Milling Hotspurs before Tuesday’s defeat.
In an interview on Wednesday, Ncube paid tribute to Bulawayo City for allowing him a one-year loan to the Eswatini outfit.
“I thank Bulawayo City for allowing me this moment to play here though at some stage of negotiations I almost lost hope but I am happy the clearance came through in time before the window closed last week.
“Losing your first match at a new club is always a painful thing but hopefully after settling in the match situation I could be that critical component to victories for the new club and probably gain the experience and win something,” said Ncube.
Malanti Chiefs are not new to Zimbabwe soccer players having been home to the late Sifiso Nketha, former Highlanders junior Hloniphani Ndebele and Zivai Verenga among others before the addition of Ncube who is just 24 years old.
Last season, Chiefs who are based in Northern HHohho Region’s Piggs Peak survived relegation with just three matches to go finishing seventh behind Mhlume Peacemakers who are coached by Takesure Chiragwi and will be praying for a better season. However, based on current pointers the forecast looks gloomy.
