GWANDA State University is seeking its first substantive Vice Chancellor as it gears to operate as a fully-fledged stand-alone institution.
The institution has been operating as a college under the guardianship of the National University of Science and Technology.
In a notice, the university said the successful candidate would be handed a five-year performance-related renewable contract.
“The candidate must be a visionary leader with the skills to interpret and implement the University’s STEM mandate within the broader context of the national; be a holder of an earned doctorate degree in a STEM discipline from a recognised University of a Full or Associate Professorship would be an added advantage,” read the notice.
GSU said the candidate must have at least 10 years’ experience of working with a high degree of success in a senior position in a tertiary or higher tertiary or research institution. The institution offers programmes in the Faculties of Life Sciences and Engineering to suit the needs of Matabeleland South province.
Among the degrees on offer are the Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Animal Husbandry, Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Minerals and Mining Engineering, Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Applied Biology and Biochemistry, Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Applied Chemistry.
Former NUST Vice Chancellor Professor Phineas Makhurane, a physicist, is the university’s chairman and the vice chairperson is Ms Mabel Elaine Mwamuka.
Other committee members include Mr Selo Nare, a retired Judge of the Labour court, Dr Muriel Selma Fallala, a medical practitioner; Engineer Phakamile Ndebele, a water engineer; Mrs Talibali Moyo, a chartered accountant, Ms Stella Nkomo — public relations officer, Prof Godfrey Dzinomwa —Metallurgy, Ambassador Dr Aaron Maboyi — Ncube, a retired diplomat and Dr Ronny Sibanda, an animal scientist.
