A group of young models from Gwanda made history after excelling at the third edition of the Little Mr and Miss Africa Zimbabwe pageant, showcasing not only their individual talent but the growing potential of Matabeleland South’s modelling industry.

The five budding stars, Thandolwethu Joga (14), Queen Xesha Sibanda (6), Minenhle Adorable Moyo (6), Princess Trinity Bhebhe (5), and Enhle Megan Sibanda (3), are all products of the Planet Kadder Academy Models, an initiative committed to “inspiring minds and shaping futures”.

The pageant, held recently, saw the Gwanda quintet walk away with top honours: Queen Xesha Sibanda – 1st Runner-Up Toto Miss Africa Zimbabwe, Minenhle Adorable Moyo – 2nd Runner-Up Toto Miss Africa Zimbabwe, Princess Trinity Bhebhe – 3rd Runner-Up Toto Miss Africa Zimbabwe, and Enhle Megan Sibanda – Darling of the Crown Award. Thandolwethu Joga – Teen Miss Africa Ambassador, also featured in the event’s opening dance performance.

Planet Kadder Academy founder, musician and actress Proficience “Kadder” Cadder, hailed the achievements as a milestone not just for the academy, but for the Gwanda community and Matabeleland South at large.
“The kids not only represented Gwanda but also carried the pride of Matabeleland South,” said Kadder.

“The contestants submitted community projects focused on drug and substance abuse awareness, part of a youth corner fundraising initiative to help Gwanda children grow their talents and stay away from drugs.”

Kadder said the boot camp was more than a competition, it was a holistic development experience.
“It included talent pre-judging, cultural exchange activities, and a pyjama party where they shared gifts with other contestants. This reinforced the spirit of Ubuntu among the children.”

She also highlighted the intense nature of the competition.
“It was not a walk in the park. They had to give speeches during the introduction and cultural categories, but our girls displayed confidence and composure throughout. It’s an experience that will contribute immensely to the growth of modelling in Gwanda.”

The triumph of the Gwanda team is a testament to the emerging modelling talent from smaller towns, often overshadowed by urban centres, and a strong signal that Zimbabwe’s creative arts scene continues to diversify and deepen. – Follow updates on X (formerly Twitter): @mthabisi_mthire
