MOTIVATIONAL speaker, author and philanthropist Mrs Rutendo Gwatidzo launched her second book titled “Breaking The Silence” in Harare on Thursday, at a ceremony attended by leaders’ from diverse sections of society.

A columnist with this publication and shrewd businesswoman, Mrs Gwatidzo, whose first book “Born to Fight” attracted wide acclaim, said her latest offering was inspired by Covid-19 experiences.

The book explores diverse issues on discrimination, mental health, and how society should co-exist to avoid stereotyping.

It also educates readers to appreciate people despite their background or present circumstances.

“One thing that I have realised and learned in life is whatever situation you are going through, you are not the first nor will you be the last, so you just have to speak out for the sake of that person who has gone before it, you just have to break the silence to get help,” said Mrs Gwatidzo on the sidelines of the launch marked by glitz and glamour.

She said most people in society are failing to deal with mental health issues and are afraid to speak for fear of being judged.

“People are failing to deal with what they are going through. When society looks at them, they judge them, they point fingers, they blame them, they give names. And because of that, people will choose not to speak, they put themselves on the corner, put make-up like everyone else but what will be inside is rotten,” she said.

Speaking at the launch, multiple award-winning businesswoman and founder of Securico Security Services Dr Divine Ndhlukula commended the author for her latest book.

“This book has the potential to impact and transform the lives of many people and society as a whole. Mental health issues are real, but victory is certain if you fight with winning strategies,” she said.

Premier Service Medical Aid Society director Dr Munyaradzi Mujuru described the book as an antidote to mental health issues.

“Coming from a medical background, mental health is real and many people are going through a lot which the majority are failing to handle. Looking at this book, I believe it is a must read.”
