TAWANDA Gwato was crowned champion of the 2014 Chief of Staff All Comers Shoot competition whose curtain came down at Cleveland Range in Harare yesterday.
Gwato managed to win his first major tournament after he could not make an impact last year. He started the event on a low note only to emerge as a dark horse and won the event.
The champion, who had not won an event in his past attempts, expects to win more tournaments.
“I am now looking forward to the next event and I will keep working hard at training. The sport is very good and it is good to see it grow. I worked hard for the result on the range and I give credit to my qualified military Senior Instructor who nurtured me to become a very good shootist. I started on a low note in the opening rounds but found my feet in the final rounds. I am now looking forward to the Skill at Arms and the Presidential Medal Shooting competitions and I believe I will do well again,” said Gwato.
The best civilian team event was won by Harare Metro with Marenga A and B coming closely on second and third places. Marenga teams were made up mostly of ex-combatants.
Airforce of Zimbabwe won the female aggregate shoot edging several other uniformed and civilian teams. Martin Chedondo was the guest of honour and was delighted with the success of the tournament.
