EVANS Gwekwerere was on target as Jameson FC emerged as the biggest winners when the Harare Social Soccer League got underway in the capital at the weekend.
The former Dynamos forward struck once in the first half to continue with the rich vein of form, which he showed last year.
The HSSL was formed by a number of social clubs who felt they needed to give a competitive edge to their matches.
Gwekwerere, who also played for the Warriors, is one of the former PSL stars in the Jameson squad.
The others include Elvis Meleka, Sydney Linyama, Nathan Ziwini and Ephraim Mazarura, who was not available for the opening weekend fixtures.
“We have been preparing for these matches for weeks now and the result showed we were ready for the league,” said FC Jameson Director of Football, Gladman “Dallas” Sekawawana.
“It’s nice to be the top scoring team but we know this is just the beginning.
“We have told our players that tougher challenges will come along the way and we have to be ready for that.
“This is a structured league and players are registered and you won’t see them playing for different teams, in the same league.”
