Tonight Dendera Maestro, Sulumani Chimbetu and his uncle, Allan will be performing at the new look Oki Chobi Hide Out while Peter Moyo and his Utakataka Express will be at Takarangana Nightclub at Mkoba Village Six Shopping centre.
There will be little space to breath for music lovers as the Sungura king, Alick Macheso will descend on the city tomorrow to stage a show at Midlands Hotel.
In an interview yesterday, one of the organisers, Edgar “Giant” Ncube who will be hosting Sulumani and the Orchestra Dendera Kings at the Oki Chobi said the lining up of gigs this weekend was an indicator that the usually quite city of Gweru was turning into an entertainment hub. He said the shows will also help the musicians to judge their popularity.
“Gweru city used to be a very quite and when people wanted to enjoy themselves, they would travel to either Bulawayo or Harare. The fact that Macheso, Sulu and Peter are coming to Gweru the same weekend shows that the city is becoming favourite destination for local musicians,” he said.
Giant said everything was now in place for the Sulumani show at the revived Oki Chobi Hide-Out.
“Dendera music lovers should come in their numbers at the Oki- Chobi tomorrow. Everything is now in place and Sulu who will be backed by popular dance group Gals La Musica, is raring to go,” he said.
Giant said they have organised transport which will take the music lovers from the city’s Central Business District to the venue.
“Oki Chobi is on the outskirts of Gweru and to ease transport challenges for the fans, we have organised transport which will take people to the venue between 7 and 8 pm from the CBD,” he said.
Meanwhile, Alick Macheso will wrap up the busy weekend on Saturday with a show at the Midlands Hotel.
The Sungura maestro will be supported by Gweru-based artist Yulasis and the Deep Roots.
Music fans will also be treated to some mesmerising dances from Gals La Musica who will be the curtain raisers to the show.
