Murdered Masvingo woman buried

The woman’s brother, Mr Constantine Mudhari (59) said yesterday that she was buried at West Park Cemetery.

“We laid Precious to rest yesterday. There were no hitches and we worked well with our in-laws,” said Mr Mudhari.

He still insisted that his family would not seek compensation from the in-laws.

Precious was allegedly killed by her customary law husband, Charter Parikumuja (34) at their house in Nyikavanhu under Chief Nyajena.

Parikumuja, a Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) employee, allegedly used a hammer and an iron bar to kill his wife who was a youth officer in the Ministry of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment.

Police are still to establish the motive for the killing.

The Parikumuja and Mudhari families worked together to prepare for the funeral, without the fighting, threats and demands that normally characterise such funerals.

Police arrested Parikumuja after he called a friend and informed him that his wife had been fatally attacked and her body was still at his house.

The friend called the police and they went to search the house at the Zinwa premises.

After failing to locate the body, they stumbled on it in a freezer, when they were looking for water to drink.

A hammer and an iron bar that were suspected to have been used in the killing were recovered.

Post-mortem results showed that the woman was murdered because the body had a deep cut on top of the right eye, behind the right ear and there were signs that she bled profusely from the nose and the mouth.
