HUNDREDS of people yesterday turned up at Gweru Cemetery to bid farewell to Ms Loveness Pedzesai who was electrocuted on Tuesday morning while bathing.Ms Pedzesai (56), who was preparing to go to work, died together with a 13-year-old girl, Unity Masarira, who was also bathing in the same bathroom.
The girl was preparing to go to school. People, mostly residents of Ascot where Ms Pedzesai lived, were still struggling to come to terms with the incident.
It was a touching moment when Ms Pedzesai’s body was taken to her church, ZAOGA, for a funeral service. After the service and eulogies by friends and relatives, Ms Pedzesai’s body was taken to Gweru Cemetery also known as Mtapa Cemetery, her final resting place.
Ascot suburb’s ward eight incoming councillor, Mr Willard Ndaguta, said the death of the two was shocking. He said the community was still trying to come to terms with the incident.
The two were electrocuted at their lodgings, House Number 313 Fusire Road, Ascot suburb. Mr Ndaguta said the incident was still the talk of the suburb.
“The circumstances leading to the two’s deaths is still a mystery to the majority of Ascot suburb residents. The majority of us are still trying to come to terms with their deaths,” he said.
Mr Ndaguta said the residents were eagerly waiting for the police to conclude their investigations. This followed initial reports that the deaths were a result of electric shock that the two suffered following an illegal power connection by a neighbour.
“We want the law to take its course on this matter because the two would have been alive if it were not for the illegal power connection,” he said.
Unity’s body was taken to her rural home in Bikita where her burial was also set for yesterday.
