Bulawayo war veteran, Cde Townley Nxumalo who died on Sunday did not commit suicide as initially alleged but died from suffocation after inhaling a pesticide.According to post-mortem results, Cde Nxumalo inhaled a pesticide, which he had applied in his room before he went to sleep.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) provincial administrator for Bulawayo, Cde Bornfas Ndlovu, confirmed the development.

“The new findings based on a post-mortem report indicate that Cde Nxumalo did not commit suicide as initially alleged. In actual fact, he applied a pesticide in his room on Saturday night just before going to bed to kill mosquitoes, but unfortunately he inhaled the substance resulting in him suffocating on that particular night.

“The doctor confirmed that Nxumalo did not drink the substance but died when he inhaled it throughout the night until it became poisonous,” said Cde Ndlovu.

Cde Nxumalo was buried yesterday at the Bulawayo Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Nkulumane.
