Gweru woman (26) fatally stabbed in bar altercation, suspect arrested

A 26-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the neck with a sharp object after she intervened in an altercation between her friend and a male patron at a cocktail bar in Mkoba 10 suburb in Gweru.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which occurred at Flames Cocktail Bar, Mkoba 10 Business Centre in Gweru on Saturday at about 10 pm.

“The now deceased Haifa Chiyangwa was drinking beer at the cocktail bar in the company of some friends when the incident allegedly happened. After the attack, she sustained a deep cut on the neck and bled profusely,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said a well-wisher ferried Chiyangwa to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where she died soon after admission.

He said preliminary investigations resulted in the arrest of Patson Chitifa of Mkoba 10 suburb in Gweru.

“He is in police custody as investigations continue. He is expected to appear in court facing a murder charge and we appeal to anyone with information linked to the case, please come forward and help us,” said Insp Mahoko.
