Gymnast Scott Demblon wins bronze in trampoline

The Celebration Centre student was able to hold his nerve and perform his routines to the end with skill and perfection when faced with world class opposition.
“Even in moments when I felt I could have lost the medal, I was able to think quickly and come back on my feet and adapt to the situation,” said Demblon.
The competition attracted gymnasts from such countries as Canada, who have some of the best athletes in trampoline, New Zealand, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe
Two other locals Kyle Rodgers and Limbikani Muweza also took part in the competition but failed to make an impact.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Gymnastics held their first inter-schools competition of the year last week at the University of Zimbabwe’s gymnasium.
The competition brought together 158 young gymnasts from the various schools in the country.
Some of the schools that took part include SOS, Herman Garmainer, St Martin’s Primary, St Michael’s, St John’s Prep, Gateway, Chisipite, Ruzawi, Springvale House, The French School, Harare International School, Hellenic, Sharon, Bishopslea, Westridge, Louis Mount Batten, Borrowdale Primary School, Twin Rivers, Dzivarasekwa 2, Avondale Primary School and Highlands Primary School.
Participants from St Martin’s, Chisipite, St Michael’s, Gateway and Highlands Primary School collected most of the medals and prizes on offer.
The vice-president of the Zimbabwe Gymnastics Association, Chris Muchatuta, said there was a lot of talent among the youth who took part in the first edition of the inter-schools competition.
“The depth of talent that was shown at the competition was outstanding and it is excellent to see the amount of talent that is in the youth of Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe gymnastics will continue to host inter-schools competitions to encourage competitiveness and excellence in the sport of gymnastics between the schools and the children within them,” said Muchatuta.
The second edition of inter-schools competition is scheduled for July 2 which is the pre-national competition where the schools will get to compete alongside established clubs and high level gymnasts in the country.
