underway with 58 participants drawn from schools, colleges and clubs taking part in the course.
The course is being conducted by veteran coach, Amon Nyaundi, HAB chairperson Sebastian Garikai, vice chairperson Phineas Ziniwa and secretary-general Sailus Muringani.
Muringani said the course is aimed at equipping their coaches with the right skills ahead of next year’s competitions.
“We are having this course as part of our preparations for the 2013 Nash national competition and the regional event — the Cosasa Championships so we have to come right as a province. We are focusing on the technical sports such as the pole vault and hammer. We are emphasising on the planning and training programme because most of our coaches do not actually have those skills.
“If we start preparing now the coaches will go back and impart the skills to the athletes and by January athletes will be ready,” said Muringani. The course has also attracted some of the top middle and long distance runners such as Kelvin Pangiso, Collen Makaza and David Tinago.
“Actually it’s a good development because when they hang their spikes they have something to do, unfortunately there are no female athletes taking part, so we are calling them to take up the challenge as well.
