HABANE Pirates co-sponsor, United Kingdom based Franklin Sibanda has parted ways with the club to pursue other interests.
In a heartfelt letter penned to the club, Sibanda informed the club’s hierarchy of his decision to cut short his ties with the Esigodini based Zifa Matabeleland South Division Two side.
“I feel like I am still very much part of the team and if anything, I remain Habane first, Habane second and Franklin lastly. It is the last part of being Franklin that I need to pursue for a while and with that I would love to take a sabbatical from football and Habane Pirates and announce my break from any obligations with Habane as I pursue interests that call for Franklin in person,” said Sibanda.
Together with fellow UK domiciled Thembani “Yena” Mpofu, the two have been jointly bankrolling the Esigodini based outfit for over two years.
Having received the communiqué from Sibanda, Mpofu who now remains the sole sponsor of the club said he welcomes the decision.
“I welcome his decision, he leaves to pursue personal interests and shape his future as a young person and we wish him well, everything is done on mutual grounds with happiness and love,” Mpofu said.
“He will remain part of the Habane in other forms and scope and maybe not as he was in his previous capacity in as far as Habane is concerned,” Mpofu added.
With the subsequent changes that are set to come with Sibanda’s departure, Mpofu said he will have a discussion with the club’s top brass to restructure his association with the club going forward.
The team finished second in the Zifa Matabeleland South Division Two League merely missing promotion having been piped by Talen Vision Academy right at the end of the campaign.
