An incorrigible thief was yesterday sent to jail for the sixth time and will serve another seven years in prison after being convicted of six counts of unlawful entry.Devon Tabvamambo (39) told the court that he had his first encounter with jail in 1985 while he was only 10 years old.
Harare magistrate Mr Ndawani Tsatsawani sentenced Tabvamambo of No. 142 Daniel Street in Mbare to seven years behind bars.
Prosecutor Mr Desire Chidanire said on October 5, 2012 a University of Zimbabwe student left his room locked. Tabvamambo opened the door using a crowbar and stole two laptops.
The following day Tabvamambo opened Karen Gwanzura’s room in Borrowdale using a crowbar and stole another laptop.
On December 30 at No. 8 Chelscate, corner Eighth Street and Baines Avenue Tabvamambo opened Charity Chikuturudzi’s door using a crowbar.
He stole two laptops, three wristwatches and clothes and left unnoticed. The court heard that on January 8, Tabvamambo opened another locked door at Marina Court, cnr Sixth Street and Baines Avenue and stole a laptop plus US$120.
On January 20 Tabvamambo was arrested trying to sneak into another house. He volunteered information concerning his other break-ins and led the police to where he had sold all the property.
