Habitual thief sentenced to 84 months

A 33-year-old Zvishavane habitual thief who was recently arrested for a spate of robberies, unlawful entry and theft has been sentenced to an effective five-year jail term after being found guilty on the 20 counts he was facing.

Peter Mugadza had initially been sentenced to 84 months in prison by a Zvishavane magistrate but 12 months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the developments in a statement.

“On October 18, 2021, Peter Mugadza aged 33 who was arrested by the police in connection with a spate of robbery and unlawful entry into premises and theft cases was sentenced to 84 months imprisonment at Zvishavane Magistrate court.

“The suspect stole cellphones and cash between January and July 2021 in and around Zvishavane,” he said.

The court heard that Mugadza on numerous occasions unlawfully entered into various homes in Zvishavane where he stole various property including cellphones.
