CAREER television and radio soccer commentator Muziwethu Hadebe was last Friday elected as the substantive Sports Journalists Association (Spoja) Southern Region chairperson for a three-year tenure.
SFM radio personality Sibongumusa Dlodlo will deputise Hadebe while the Sunday News reporter Ngqwele Dube was elected secretary-general.
Newsday reporter Sakheleni Nxumalo is the treasurer and his colleague Thandiwe Moyo and Chronicle reporter Sikhumbuzo Moyo are the two committee members.
The elections were supervised by the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe board member and veteran journalist Tapfuma Machakaire who was assisted by former Chronicle Features Editor Arnold Mutemi.
Speaking soon after the elections, Dlodlo appealed to VMCZ to organise workshops for the association’s members so that they can be capacitated in line with the demands of their work.
Treasurer Nxumalo encouraged members to pay their subscription to enable the association to implement its projects.
Spoja hopes to meet Sport and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane sometime next week.
