NEARLY 20 families in Chibuwe Ward 20 of Chipinge District are appealing for assistance to repair their homes which were destroyed by the rains that fell in the area recently.

Ward 20 councillor, Councillor Charles Magidho, said the affected families also lost foodstuffs and property during the hailstorm that hit the area early this month.

He added that Mutofoti Village was the most affected as a classroom block at the local primary school was also destroyed while shops at the business centre had their roofs blown off.

Said Mr Magidho: “We are still grappling with the effects of a hailstorm that hit the area last month and left a trail of destruction as it damaged 17 homes, destroyed a school block and blew away roofs at local shops.

“With their homes and foodstuffs lost in the rains, the affected families are still stranded and we are appealing to Government and well wishers to assist in whatever way they can, especially with repairing the houses and providing food.”

He urged the villagers to follow weather forecasts and always be on high alert to prevent potential disasters.
