A play titled Half Empty, Half Full will premiere tonight at the Theatre in the Park and will run until Saturday. The play, which is a Savanna Trust production, was supposed to premiere yesterday but was postponed to today. It was directed by award-winning South African playwright Mncedisi Shabangu and features National Arts Merit Awards best theatre actor for 2010, Teddy Mangawa, and Nama 2013 Best Theatre actor Tafadzwa Hananda.In a statement, Theatre in The Park spokesperson Robert Tapfumaneyi said the play is developmental theatre production which focuses on a love story about two villagers who grew apart only to be united by fate.
“Half Empty,Half Full is a story about two villagers who grew apart but are united by fate. On the eve of their departure to the city, they both discover love.
One is in love with his fiancé Vimbai, who has borne him beautiful twin sons while the other loves his dying sister. In the end one of them has to make a sacrifice and remain behind in the village, but the village river is about to go dry. It is half empty, half full,” he said.
The play was performed at various festivals in the region such as Tsoho International Community Theatre and Fance Festival in South Africa, Blantyre Arts Festival in Malawi, INTWASA Arts Festival (Bulawayo) and Harare International Festival of the Arts.
Mangawa and Hananda form a highly creative and brilliant duo that has taken Zimbabwean theatre industry by storm.
