Half-Marathon set to promote men’s health awareness

THE Cimas Health Group has expressed readiness for this year’s annual Cimas iGo half-marathon scheduled to take place in Harare and Bulawayo on 17 and 24 November respectively.

The events which will be held under the theme “Men’s Health Champions Build Healthier Communities,” aims to raise awareness about men’s health, particularly prostate and testicular cancer.

Vuli Ndlovu, Chief Executive Officer of Cimas Health Group emphasised the importance of promoting wellness and addressing men’s health issues.

“In recognition of Men’s Health Awareness Month, we are proud to host the Cimas iGo half-marathon to bring attention to prostate cancer and other men’s health concerns,” he said.
The marathon will feature 21km, 10km, and 5km races, with registration fees set at US$15.

All proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe. Last year’s event raised US$13 753 and attracted 1 422 participants.
Ndlovu encouraged men to prioritize their health, citing statistics from the Cancer Research Institution, which indicate that prostate cancer affects millions of men globally.

He emphasised the need to break the stigma surrounding men’s health discussions, promoting open communication and seeking medical help.
The Cimas iGo wellness programme offers holistic wellness initiatives, including health screenings, fitness events, and lifestyle improvement activities.

The event is open to the public and participants can register online through Cimas platforms.
Last year’s inaugural 21km race in Bulawayo was won by Thabo Mapfumo and Abigail Musarurwa.

Mapfumo completed the men’s race in 1 hour 16 minutes 33 seconds, while Musarurwa won the women’s race in 1 hour 47 minutes.
Albanas Tshuma took the men’s 10km title in 38 minutes 15 seconds and Tulange Mudenda won the women’s 10km in 48 minutes 10 seconds.
