A RUWA man was on Monday ordered by armed robbers to either hand over all the cash he had or watch them raping his wife.
The robbers also threatened to set his house on fire.
Tonderai Kangara, 39, was asleep when four men, wearing face masks, burst into his house at around 2am.
They tied the hands of Tonderai, his wife and their son with shoe laces.
They demanded US$3500, which they claimed Tonderai had inside the house.
His son handed over US$30 to the armed robbers.
They threatened to rape his mother, and set the house on fire, if Tonderai did not give them more money but he insisted that he had no cash in his house.
They proceeded to search the bedroom and found US$4, a HP laptop, a Huawei cellphone, a solar sensor, a pair of tackies and formal shoes, a Techno 7Pro cellphone, and they fled the scene.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the robbery saying the victims were assaulted and left nursing injuries.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery case where a family was assaulted and lost cash and property in Ruwa,” said Insp Chakanza..
“The complainant sustained bruises and swelling on the hands and he bled on the right shoulder from being hit with a claw bar.
“His son sustained swelling on the back from being hit with a claw bar and complainant’s wife sustained swelling at the back of the head from being hit by a hammer.
“They were referred to Parirenyatwa hospital for medical examinations,” said Insp Chakanza
