A freelance sales agent with GTel (Pvt) Ltd on Friday appeared in court accused of converting $16 548 she collected from selling handsets to own use.
Noma Mutsvati (33) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo yesterday facing theft of trust property charges. She will be back in court on May 24 for trial.
She was granted $300 bail and as part of her bail conditions she was ordered to continue residing at her given address and not to interfere with State witnesses.
Allegations are that in February 2014 GTel (Pvt) Ltd entered into a commission sales agreement with Mutsvati in which she would sell handsets on behalf of the company.
The court heard that during the period between February 2014 and March 2016 Mutsvati was given 41 various GTel handsets worth $16 548 by the company to sell and remit the sale proceeds.
It is alleged that Mutsvati sold the handsets and converted the money to her own use and to cover up for the offence, she went to the company where she submitted credit application and declaration forms indicating that she sold the handsets on credit to employees from Cargo Carriers, the Salvation Army and National Oil Infrastructure Company customers.
The court heard that the matter came to light when GTel (Pvt) Ltd failed to get monthly instalments from the purported customers leading to her arrest.
