MANICALAND Province is set to get more radio owing to susceptibility to natural disasters, a development that will go a long way in managing calamities, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, has said.
In his welcome remarks during the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services half year review workshop underway here in Vumba, Advocate Mugadza said: “We are grateful to His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa for giving Manicaland six radio stations (five communities and one commercial radio). In the near future, we expect Makoni District to roll out Nhimbe FM, while in Buhera, we expect Uhera 07FM community radio to be licenced by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe. In Mutasa, Wanyika community radio is set to hold engagements with BAZ to kick-start the process of licencing of the radio station, possibly bringing to 10, the radio stations domiciled in Manicaland Province; e phenomenal achievement indeed!
“As we continue with these milestones, I would like to make a special appeal, and strongly lobby the Treasury to release dedicated funding for gap filler projects in critical border and remote locations.
“Our citizens in hard-to-reach areas and border areas should not rely on foreign broadcasting signals from neighboring countries to hear news about their own nation. Closing these broadcast gaps is both a matter of national development and national sovereignty.”
