Wednesday night that Sunday Chidzambwa got his first win of the South African Premiership.
It took just five minutes for Khamaldinho to settle matters at Athlone when he ran on to connect a pass from Terror Fanteni.
The Zimbabwe international coolly drove the ball past the Santos goalkeeper. Khama could have scored a brace when he got a fine chance with about 10 minutes to go before the end of the half but blazed his effort over the bar.
There was also a first win of the season for Chidzambwa as his Black Leopards beat Golden Arrows 2-0 although the winners finished with 10 men.
Moses Kwena was red carded for a second bookable offence on 90 minutes, but Leopards’ lead was safe by that stage.
Black Leopards got both their goals in the second half with Khetowakhe Masuku hitting home on 74 minutes, after Raymond Monama put in some great work to beat the Arrows defence.
But Masuku’s left-footed shot was helped into the net by Johannes and he was harshly given the own-goal.
Monama’s corner led to the second goal, after Arrows’ defence failed to clear, allowing Harry Nyirenda to blast it home.
In another Absa Premiership game, Mamelodi Sundowns woke up from their slumber in the second half to fire four goals past Moroka Swallows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Zimbabwean forward Oscar Machapa will count himself unlucky when his powerful strike from 25 yards narrowly went wide in the 12th minute.
In a 16-minute period the Swallows defence seemed to go to sleep and Sundowns’ attackers took full advantage.
First, in the 50th minute Katlego Mphela showed his prowess in front of goal with a fine finish to give his side the lead. Seven minutes later Teko Modise doubled his side’s lead with a classy finish. The goal of the evening was scored by Musa Nyatama in the 60th minute when his 25-yard thunderbolt found the top right-hand corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance. Mphela grabbed his second to
conclude the goal rout after latching onto an accurate cross from Punch Masenamela to fire the ball home for 12-yards out, 4-0. Zimbabwe forward Nyasha Mushekwi was introduced as a late substitute.
There was no joy for Warriors goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini as he was twice beaten against SuperSport United.
All three SuperSport United substitutes played a crucial role in the 2-1 win against Usuthu who also featured former Gunners duo of Carlington Nyadombo and Ramson Zhuwawo.
Kaizer Chiefs were 2-1 winners over BidVets at the FNB Stadium as Maritzburg United pulled off a major upset on Wednesday night in beating Orlando Pirates 2-1 at Harry Gwala Stadium, but not without controversy.
Terence Mandaza got a starting place in Platinum’s 2-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in their Premiership clash at the Moruleng Stadium – Sports Reporter/Kickoff.Com.
