ACTING Mayor of Harare, Councillor Stanley Manyenga, expressed his deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of women’s rights lobby groups in the city and across the country at a conference on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) held at The Venue in Harare.
Cllr Manyenga acknowledged the significant strides made by these organisations in promoting women’s rights and combating GBV.
He pledged the city’s commitment to working closely with these partners to intensify efforts in addressing the scourge of GBV.
The Acting Mayor also highlighted the specific challenges faced by women and girls in Harare, particularly at the hands of rank marshals and male chauvinists.
He emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to tackle these issues head-on.
In his address, Cllr Manyenga outlined the concrete steps being taken by the city to combat GBV.
“We have launched a 24-hour clinic to provide critical support services to survivors of GBV.
“We are also working closely with the Gender Commission in the country to ensure a coordinated response to GBV.
“Furthermore, we have established a dedicated gender office at the municipality to address any GBV issues that may arise at the organizational level,” he said.
These initiatives demonstrate the city’s commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for women and girls.
The Acting Mayor’s pledge for collaboration and action underscores Harare’s dedication to eradicating GBV.
