Harare Athletic Board to host selection meet

THE Harare Athletic Board are scheduled to host a track and field selection meet at the National Sports Stadium on September 18.

They are hosting the event in conjunction with the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe since it’s for the selection of a team to represent the country at the African Union Sports Council Region Five Youth Games.

The Games are expected to take place in December, in Maseru, Lesotho.

HAB vice-chairperson, Aaron Whyte, said the best athlete in each event will be picked.

“This is a NAAZ event. We are just the delivery agents.

“It is open to all athletes from all provinces. The team will constitute of 16 girls and 16 boys as a directive from SRC because it’s their team as the custodians of the AUSC Region Five Games.

“The best athletes in each event will be selected,” said Whyte.

Events lined up for the day include 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 2000m steeplechase, 3000m, 100m hurdles (women), 110m hurdles (men), 400m hurdles, 5000m (women) walk, 10 000m (men) walk, long jump, high jump and shot put.
