Harare mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume says the city will be focusing on infrastructure, particularly roads, tower lights and getting back the power station.

Speaking at the City of Harare Employee Wellness and Funfair held recently Cllr Mafume said Harare is dedicated to pursuing national priorities, making the capital a habitable and healthy city for all.

He said the council will also on sports.

“We opened Rufaro Stadium and when we opened it many people said ‘he’s mad’, ‘why did he fix the ground?’

“How can you demolish the ground that was constructed recently when Great Zimbabwe built in the 14th century is still standing? It’s important for us to develop our sports facilities.”

Cllr Mafume said the city will also go to the wards.

“We gave Mabvuku to Scottland and Dzivaresekwa to Herentals. We are open to those who would like to assist us in constructing stadiums to come so we can do so for the wellness of our employees and residents,” he said.

Cllr Mafume said the city will revive stadiums in high-density areas using money from its subsidiary Rufaro Marketing.

“I advised the Rufaro Marketing board that rentals from all bars should go towards repairing stadiums in high-density areas and repairing clinics in our suburbs and repairing our district offices and halls so that they are safe to be used as gyms and for Zumba,” he said.

Cllr Mafume said council plans to repair its swimming pools.
