Harare City face stern test

JOSEPH “Shabba” Takaringofa’s title chasing Harare City side will face a stern test when they host wounded Herentals U-20 in a Ruyamuro Northern Region Soccer League match at Motor Action Sports Club this afternoon.

Harare City, who are six points behind log leaders Black Mambas, will have their title credentials put to test by a side who have become perennial campaigners and party spoilers.

Herentals U-20 are eager to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Chinhoyi Stars, who have also become giant killers after another shock victory over Black Mambas two weeks ago.

The students will be hoping for a win after they were in the championship matrix for the better part of the season.

“We have been playing away from home for the past three games and we are hoping that this weekend we are going to collect maximum points playing at home

“We know Herentals U-20 are one of the best teams in the league and are also coming from a defeat. Obviously they would want to avoid another defeat and also get a win. But as a team that is fighting for the title, we can only measure ourselves against the best and we have to beat the best teams to achieve our target,” said Takaringofa.

In-form Chegutu Pirates, who are breathing heavily behind Harare City are away to Ngezi Platinum Stars U-19 looking for another win to keep their title chase on course.

After a slow start to the second half of the season, Chegutu Pirates picked up the tempo in the last five matches in which they narrowed the gap with log leaders Black Mambas to seven points.

Mambas face a tricky assignment away to OMNIA at Kuwadzana stadium on Saturday while Shamva Mine fighting against relegation will be aiming for a win against Golden Eagles at Shamva Mine stadium.

Come Again will welcome Commando Bullets at Rimuka Stadium in the only fixture on Sunday.
