HARARE City coach Taurai Mangwiro says his men need to win the Chibuku Super Cup, starting by beating ZPC Kariba in the semi-final at Mandava tomorrow, to make up for a season where they did not live up to expectations. The Sunshine Boys lost in the final last year at the same venue.
“It is an important fixture because I feel that’s where we have a lifeline. We haven’t done very well and we are 14 points off the mark in as far as the league championship is concerned.
“But for the Chibuku Cup, it is possible as we are two games away from representing the country in Africa (inter-club competitions).
“It is an important match for us and we hope we will be able to atone for the 0-2 defeat against ZPC Kariba in the league fixture.
“To be honest, we have to be realistic of our targets.
“What I have is a three-year contract and in those three years I have to turn the team into a formidable team. This year, yes, I would say it hasn’t been what I expected.
“We had far too many draws in the league but it is in the Cup competition, where I feel we have posted some good results, 4-1 in the first fixture against Buffaloes and then followed that up with a 5-0 drubbing of Triangle.” Mangwiro said he has a lot of respect for ZPC Kariba and their veteran coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa.
“They are on the recovery path. When they changed coaches results didn’t go their way, now there is that self belief and getting their confidence back and they have just beaten us in the league.
“We expect them to come up with their tails up but we have no fear whatsoever but we have great respect for their coach and he mentored me during my playing days.
“I have lot of respect for him and he has turned around ZPC Kariba,” he said.
