Harare clubs dominate Black Label Black Ball Challenge

The Midlands Pool League also left a mark in the female version of the game when it contributed two of the top four players who also had this year’s champion, Auxillia Munyengwi.

Chikati pocketed $1 000 for winning the pool jamboree.

He relegated fellow Harare Pool League star George Trevor ($600) to second spot while Chitungwiza’s Nolasco Nyanda ($400) was the second runner-up.

Emmanuel Gundumure ($200) and Caleb Nyanda both of Harare came fourth and fifth respectively while Midlands’ Russell Washaya, Craig Nyamugure of Mutare and Mike Jonhera from Kadoma completed the top eight in the same order.

Positions five to eight walked away with $100 as consolation prizes.

In the women’s game Munyengwi, who won the $500 winner’s prize had shrugged off the challenge of Harare’s Viola Kawadza ($300) who took second position while Constance Nyoni ($200) also from the Midlands came third and Tendai Musiyiwa ($100) from Chitungwiza completed the top four list.

Chikati paid tribute to hard work and support from teammates for winning the tournament.

“I put a lot of hard work into training with my teammates whose words of encouragement also inspired me to win this tournament,” he said.

An elated Munyengwi, who on the way to the winners podium had eliminated defending champion Sipho Dube, dedicated her victory to the Midlands Pool League.

This year’s tournament was sponsored to the tune of $31 000 by Delta Beverages, the traditional sponsors of the annual pool jamboree through their Carling Black Label lager brand.
