THE ZRP Raiders coach Vulindlela Moyo has taken a swipe at the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association after National League matches were not played in the city on Saturday. Moyo was left fuming following Harare Polytechnic and Black Rhinos’ failure to travel for scheduled weekend games which were set for Raylton Recreation Club.
On Friday, Moyo had hinted that the Harare teams were unlikely to come. He said they had previously been reluctant to travel to Bulawayo for matches which was unfair to his club and Highlanders who are based in the city.
Raiders are expected to travel to Harare this coming weekend to play reverse fixtures.
“I’m disappointed really after all the preparations we had done.
The association should do something about it, now we have to travel and play all our games there. If we don’t travel like they did we will be knocked out from representing the country in the Zone V1 which is not fair,” said Moyo.
He said the league must ensure that all teams travel for the games.
“If travelling to Bulawayo is costly then they should arrange a system that we play our games in neutral venues like Gweru and Kwekwe,” he said.
ZRP Raiders and Highlanders are the only teams from the city which are in the National League.
“I believe ZVA should spread these games around the country,” he said.
The ZRP Raiders coach said he was not happy with the format.
“How can we play league games like a tournament?” he said.
Veteran coach Moyo believes the league should be played throughout the year instead of being congested in three weeks.
“The reason we disappointed in Zambia was because our players lack game time.” said Moyo.
ZVA administrator Sibangane Machacha said they were going to visit the issue as most teams failed to travel because they were alerted on short notice.
