HARARE EMBRACES SMART CITY VISION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

ACTING Mayor Cllr Stanley Manyenga has highlighted Harare’s vision for a smart city, harnessing technology to enhance efficiency, sustainability and quality of life.

The key focus areas are smart traffic management, digital entrepreneurship, and innovative learning at the Smart Zimbabwe Conference and Expo in Harare today.

He stressed that the City of Harare is actively taking a responsibility to adopt smart solutions and strategic integration into the urban fabric. The City is implementing various technological advancements to enhance good service delivery.

“In view of the important smart technologies, we are actively exploring and implementing various technological advancements aimed at improving public services, enhancing resource management, and fostering a more connected and responsive environment,” he said.

“Harare is committed to using technologies to address urban challenges and unlock new opportunities for growth.”

He hailed the partnership between local and national authorities, noting that it amplifies the City’s efforts and yields results for citizens. The conference provided a platform for acquiring knowledge from global practices, creating new partnerships, and charting a better course for Zimbabwe.

Cllr Manyenga added that the Smart Zimbabwe Conference and Expo initiative will improve traffic congestion.

“This initiative will decongest our roads, reduce travel times, and ultimately create more fluid urban flows for commuters and businesses alike,” he said.

Cllr Manyenga also highlighted the importance of advanced technology in fostering a strong economy and assisting people to start their businesses online and providing opportunities for youths in businesses.

“AI is making our work faster and better, they help government and business more easily, save money and time, and deliver services quickly,” he said.

The Acting Mayor emphasised that advanced technology makes Harare’s economy strong and more competitive, assists people in starting businesses, and brings new ideas.

With fast internet and online tools, young people can create jobs, build new companies, and make Harare a centre for digital businesses.

The initiative will also enable businesses to reach outside the country through online shopping and digital marketing, fostering more exports and a strong economy. This will evoke a vibrant city capable of resilience, making Zimbabwe a success.
