Harare City Council has been exposed for failing to account for money generated from its land sales amid serious corruption allegations.
Councillors and management have all been accused of working in cahoots to loot land using proxies while pocketing the proceeds at the expense of the city.
In the 2023 audit report for local authorities, Acting Auditor-General, Mrs Rhea Kujinga said Harare City Council officials failed to account for land sales.
“The council did not provide the supporting documents such as sale agreements and bank statements to support revenue generated from land sales.
“There was a limitation of scope as I was not provided with the supporting documents for the transactions which were recorded in the ledger as reconnection fees,” said Mrs Kujinga.
