HARARE Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume is attending the 5th Forum on China-Africa Local Government Co-operation in Guangdong Province, China.

The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province is hosting the Forum.

It is also co-hosted by the City of Guangzhou, Harare City Council’s partner for 12 years.

Mayor Mafume said the visit will rekindle cooperation between the two cities.

“I was privileged to be one of the speakers from Africa to market the City of Harare. We spoke about the enduring friendship between Harare’s citizens and those of the cities in China.

“The modernity on display is not a joke and the efficiency is a marvel. With China having assisted us during the war of liberation, it goes without saying that we finish the job by working together to develop Zimbabwe,” said Mayor Mafume.

“We need improvement in water reticulation, waste management, green energy, skills transfer, mass public transport, industry and the smart city concept.”
