The Harare Jazz Festival, which is part of this year’s Harare International Carnival, will be held tomorrow at Spook House in Msasa. It is expected to be a fete to remember judging from the stellar line-up the organisers have put in place. The jazz music jamboree, which is in its sixth edition, will be running under the theme “Tribute and Memories.”
Top notch acts are expected from local artists like Oliver Mtukudzi who will be serenading jazz lovers together with Kenyan musician Suzanna Owiyo. Those attending this year’s festival will be spoilt for choice and many are likely to be there throughout the night to listen to music from the different artistes.
The show will start at around 2pm and spills into the late night with some local acts on the line-up including Vee Mukarati, Family voices, Mbare Trio, Prudence Katomeni Mbofana, Outfit, Norman Masamba, Intotal Filbert Marova taking turns with their international counterparts on stage. Zimababwe-born jazz maestro Louis Mhlanga who is based in South Africa, will also grace this year’s edition that will see the closing act coming from SA jazz expert Judith Sephuma who goes on stage around 11pm.
Another highlight is SA-based Nigerian Kunle Ayo who has serenaded local jazz lovers at his many previous visits. Show organiser Sam Mataure said a galaxy of entertainment has been lined up for this year’s edition to give fans a memorable treat. “Last year we skipped the festival after we failed to secure support since things were not going according to the script. This year it is going to be a show with a difference and I would like to call upon all jazz lovers to come and enjoy music from a wider selection.
“Let us come in numbers and support our local talent in the form of upcoming talented jazz musicians like Norman Masamba, Intotal and Family Voices,” said Mataure. He said this show will help the upcoming artistes shape their careers as they share the stage with seasoned artists.
