Harare Open tennis tourney begin

Participants will fight for honours in the 10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 14-and-Under, 16-and-Under and the 18-and-Under age groups.
The tournament is expected to feature players from other provinces such as Mutare, Bulawayo and Midlands.
Harare tennis board member in charge of development, Nestbet Chirewa, said all was now set for the tournament.
“We have about 115 entrances that have been uploaded on our website but we are expecting some more names.
“Everything is in place. I am meeting the four tournament convenors today to ensure that everything is in place.
“The only incentive in this tournament is to get points.
“One has to amass as many points as they can because they will be used for national teams selection,” said Chirewa.
He said they were looking forward to a different competition because most of the players have moved up their ages in search of competition.
“This is going to be different because most of the players have moved up their age groups because they think they have enough points in their age groups.
“We are expecting a stiff competition in the 16-and-under and the 14-and-under.
“We might get some upsets, especially in the 16-and-under as well as the 14-and-under girls, because most of them moved up to strengthen the competition,” said Chirewa.
The competition has attracted top junior players such as Ngoni Makambwa, Takudzwa Muswere, Latifah Yasini and Alywn Mushonga and Keren Muswere who were in Egypt for the African Junior championships held early this month.
Most of the junior players have been competing in several tournaments that are being held in different provinces.
