HARARE Otters swimmers dominated the Mashonaland Junior League swimming gala at Les Brown Pool yesterday to finish on top of the table with a combined score of 264.Yesterday’s meet was the first gala for the juniors after the winter break and saw Harare Otters, Sharks, Spartans, Dorado, Pirates Zimbabwe and Highlands taking part. It comes after the seniors had their own gala on Friday night.
The junior league saw participants from nine-and-under to 12 years competing in 66-yard breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle, 33-yard breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle, 132-individual medley and 132-freestyle relay.
Most of the Harare Otter’s points came from the girls who topped their section with a total of 130 points while the boys were on third place with 134 points but they managed to secure first position when their points were combined.
In second place was Sharks with 242 points followed by Spartans who accumulated 230 points. Dorado Swimming Club were fourth with 130 points while Pirates Zimbabwe and Highlands settled for fifth and sixth position with 125 and 4 points respectively.
Mashonaland Swimming Board chairperson Niroshia Abdulla said the event is used to introduce the young swimmers to a competition set-up and said they were happy with the turnout for yesterday’s meet as well as the senior event held on Friday night.
