The Zanu PF Harare province yesterday resolved that the National People’s Congress which is due in 2027 be postponed to 2030 in alignment with the national Constitution where the electoral cycle is now seven years.
The province unequivocally endorsed President and First Secretary Cde Mnangagwa as the party’s preferred candidate for election as First Secretary and President of Zanu PF at the next party congress in 2030.
“We have resolved that until the next congress he remains President and First Secretary of the party and at that congress he will be our nominee as party leader,” Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said at a Zanu PF inter-district meeting ahead of the party’s conference next month.
Zanu PF Harare province endorsed a number of resolutions for consideration at the ruling party’s 23rd annual National People’s Conference that will be held next month in Chinhoyi.
The resolutions were discussed and endorsed at a Provincial Inter-District meeting and later on at the Provincial Coordinating Committee — which brought together party leaders and grassroots members.
The PCC was held in accordance with the party constitution to adopt the resolutions made during the provincial inter-district meeting.
The meetings discussed a number of resolutions which will be deliberated at the conference among them state of the party, state of the economy, social services and poverty eradication, empowerment projects, engagement and re-engagement, state of liberation war heritage, gender and culture, sports and recreation, drug and substance abuse, environment, climate and wildlife management among others.
There was consensus among the Zanu PF Harare province members that the Zanu PF constitution be reviewed and aligned, where necessary, with the Constitution of Zimbabwe, as amended, including provisions relating to the tenure and electoral cycles of party structures.
The proposed alignment is intended to promote constitutional harmony, institutional consistency, stability and continuity.
The province also tabled a resolution calling for the expeditious implementation of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, in accordance with the Constitution, applicable legislation and established party procedures.
In an interview soon after the Inter-district meeting last night in Harare, Zanu PF Secretary for Education, Research and Ideology Cde Charles Tawengwa noted the province had requested the party to align the party constitution with CAA3 as part of the draft resolution which will be deliberated at the conference.
“I want to commend the provincial structures for supporting the recently enacted Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 3.
“We were in Bulawayo and Mutare and those conferences brought about Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3. These resolutions are aimed at uplifting the lives and livelihoods of our people while supporting the attainment of National Vision 2030” he said.
He said the resolutions should be all inclusive and focused on the benefit of the people in Harare.
“The circular is clear; we want new resolutions that further the revolutionary process while also assessing whether our previous resolutions have been implemented” he said.
Provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa thanked the people of Harare for supporting the constitutional amendment.
