THE zanu-pf Harare provincial executive yesterday reaffirmed the vote of no confidence it passed on chairman Cde Amos Midzi, with provincial commissar Cde Shadreck Mashayamombe among the people who supported the move.

Cde Mashayamombe endorsed Cde Midzi’s ouster.

The executive council also reversed the vote of no confidence passed on provincial youth chairperson Cde Godwin Gomwe by a team led by provincial youth commissar Cde Tendai Diwa.

Yesterday’s meeting was attended by 27 members from the main wing, 22 from the Youth League and 18 from the Women’s League.

Speaking after the meeting, zanu-pf secretary for administration for Harare Cde Tawanda Kadengu said the vote of no confidence passed on Cde Midzi was binding.

“We reaffirmed our position and today there were 27 members from the main wing who included Cde Mashayamombe,” he said. “Remember, he was not part of the last meeting, but today he attended and signed the document calling for Cde Midzi’s ouster.”

Cde Mashayamombe refused to comment on the issue.

Cde Kadengu described the purported suspension of Cde Gomwe as a non-event.

“As the youths, we are behind Cde Gomwe and those who said they had booted him out are daydreaming,” he said.

“The meeting that ousted him was not called for because as secretary for administration, I am the one who should convene a meeting or the vice Chairman Cde Edson Takataka. We were all not aware of the meeting and therefore we have written a letter reversing the suspension.”

Cde Midzi was booted out, in terms of article 29 section 251 of the party constitution, for fanning factionalism.

In their resolutions, the province also questioned Cde Midzi’s leadership credentials, alleging that he was not to be trusted as he had failed to work for the common objectives of the party.

The province said his removal would heal the party’s wounds as Cde Midzi had caused “anarchy and disrepute” in the party.

Cde Midzi’s ouster came against the backdrop of him holding secret meetings, with the latest being the one he convened two weeks ago.

He is accused of holding the meetings with non-elected members ultra vires the party constitution.
