Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mayor Masunda described the gesture as magnanimous adding that such things would not just happen but showed his (Peter’s) empathy for people.
“What Peter started 18 months ago is what we hope will become an epidemic and we hope other corporates will take a leaf out of Peter Lobel’s book.
“We are eternally grateful, you are a man of your word, you are fulfilling your promise,” added the mayor.
He also went on to reveal that the initial donation had gone a long way in saving lives and thousands worth of property adding that since January 2012 to last month, the fire division had responded to 990 calls.
He (mayor Masunda) also added that OK Zimbabwe had handed US$50 000 to the fire division which had gone towards procuring three engines.
Peter Lobel said he had felt compelled to donate the fire tenders as result of the fires that occur on a daily basis, further revealing that his next port of call will be Masvingo and Mutare.
The fire tenders worth 15 000 pounds each, were donated under the auspices of the General Solomon Mujuru Foundation.
The city of Harare now has 7 functional fire tenders out of an initial fleet of 17.
