Harare residents tipped to vote for development

The urban electorate has a straightforward choice between development stallers and agents of progress who deliver quality representation when they cast their votes in this year’s general elections.

This was said by Zanu PF House of Assembly candidate for Dzivaresekwa Cde Lovemore Chamatova on the sidelines of a constituency campaign coordinating meeting in Harare last week.

He implored the electorate to put a stop to voting for stone throwers and go for representatives that shared President Mnangagwa’s development thrust.

Most urbanites, particularly in the metropolitan province of Harare had since the turn of the millennium, consistently voted for opposition parties whose candidates,  however, failed to live to the electorate’s expectations, thus resulting in marked development regression.

The ruling Zanu PF, especially under the Second Republic, has however made considerable gains towards regaining the trust of the urban voter on the back of rapid economic transformation being championed by President Mnangagwa, leading to an empowered upper middle-income economy by 2030.

With the 2023 general elections around the corner, pending a date proclamation by the President, Cde Chamatova said this year’s election was an opportunity for urban voters to draw a line in the sand and choose quality, development-oriented representatives.

“Besides their stone throwing type of politics, hauling and grandstanding in the way of Government initiated projects, show me one meaningful thing that the opposition in its various forms — has delivered for our people and I will show you a donkey swimming in Lake Kariba,” dared Cde Chamatova.

“It’s fine, from time to time, people may want to try new things and they have done this over the last 23 years. But my question is what positives has this brought? Our metropolitan province is being turned into an 18th century city if not worse.

“Roads have become almost impassible, Government initiated constituency development funds are being looted, Harare City Council has been turned into a money spinning project for these elected opposition figures, Government initiated projects are continuously sabotaged….

“2023 is an opportunity to put a stop to this nonsense. Zimbabwe is lucky to have a visionary like President Mnangagwa and we are certain the generality of the populace will resoundingly give him the mandate to continue the development trajectory he has set the country on.

“What we are saying to the people of Dzivaresekwa and Harare in general is that Epworth has given the signal, lets follow the lead and choose representatives that share the President’s vision and foster development in our localities.

“Today if you take an outsider and put them in Dzivaresekwa you will have a hard time convincing them that it is not a war zone owing to a myriad of challenges that it is facing like impassible roads and lack of utilities all brought on us by self-serving corrupt opposition politicians,” he said.
