A HARARE man who together with his friends were recently arrested and appeared in court on suspected sodomy charges has reportedly skipped bail.
Cliff Tawanda Kafesu was nabbed after patrons at a popular Harare night spot complained that they were seen fondling their privates and kissing with his male colleagues.
Kafesu was charged with indecent exposure and public nuisance after he had openly states he was gay and he was just expressing his feelings for his male ‘lover’.
According to court documents he was meant to appear in court for commencement of trial on 23 July after being granted bail on 18 July.
“The court has since opened a warrant of arrest against him after his name was called three times in court and he did not come through. Investigations by the police have since revealed that he skipped the country to neighboring South Africa, however investigations are still being to ensure he is rearrested,” said a source close to the investigations.
In a statement, from the police media liaison office, Kafesu is said to have informed friends that he was not going to survive in prison once convicted by the court.
“For now we must warn some of his friends who are seemingly refusing to divulge information that could lead to his rearrest that they will themselves be arrested for obstructing the course of justice.
“To those that have information that could help us re-arrest the fugitive, a reward is being offered and they can contact the nearest police,” reads the statement.
