Harare to host Zimbabwe Motor Show

Zimbabwe Motor Show will be held at Old Georgians Sports Club from May 17 to 19, bringing you the latest developments in the car industry.

Harare Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda is expected to open the event.
The Zimbabwe Motor Show is a non-profit Trust formed by members of the Motor Industry Association of Zimbabwe, and their principal activity is to promote the motor industry in Zimbabwe through planning and co-ordinating the Zimbabwe Motor Show, an exhibition event that is held annually.

Exhibitors will include major vehicle brands distributors, new vehicle dealers, spares and accessories dealers, asset finance and insurance institutions, repairs and maintenance service providers, fuel and lubricants suppliers, trucks and buses dealers and marine equipment suppliers.

Various car dealerships are expected to launch new vehicles. This year’s show sees an improvement in quality of exhibits and content of programme.

In terms of dealerships all eyes will be on Toyota, which had a good year in 2012 as it reclaimed its number one position in worldwide sales even after the natural disasters that Japan experienced and in Zimbabwe it won the Superbrand Award for the third year running and took top sales spot in the Zimbabwe market for the first time.

We are all waiting to see if they will out do themselves this year.
They will be having three surprise launches and the Le Mans draw will also be conducted . . . so that’s a quadruple whammy  . . . kikikiki.

Nissan claimed nearly 21 percent market share in Zimbabwe during 2012 and a position in the top two new vehicle sales brands in Zimbabwe.

This is a position the Nissan brand is familiar with as it has commanded the first or second spot for the last 12 years in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe holds huge potential and is one of the key markets within Nissan’s African Portfolio. Nissan’s growth plan in the next couple of years is very ambitious with an anticipated market share growth of 85 percent. We wait patiently for that to happen . . .

Quest Motor Corporation will be launching the all new Foton Tunland 1 tonne 4×4 truck. Tunland is powered by Cummins ISF 2,8 litre turbo diesel engine with towing capacity of 2,5 tonnes.

The all new Tunland was voted Bakkie of the Year 2013 by South African Bakkie and Truck magazine. I also give this vehicle a heads up as I was quite chuffed when I test drove it a few weeks ago.

Just three years in the business and with results so visible, Premier Auto is another dealership to look out for this year. After test driving the Jaguar range on the coast in Durban a few months ago, I am sure the new model to be launched at the show will not fail to impress.

Premier Auto will be launching the Jaguar F Type at this year’s Zimbabwe Motor Show. This will be the first unveiling of this vehicle in Africa.

Other vehicles to look forward to seeing at their stand this year include the all-new Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery 4, Land Rover Freelander, Land Rover Defender, Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ and the all new Jaguar F type.

As a company with its origins in Zimbabwe going back nearly six decades, Zimoco is very much an integral part of the Zimbabwe motoring scene.

Older readers will know that the company established its reputation as the representative of the world’s oldest car company, Mercedes-Benz, and while this famous brand still very much comprises their core business, additional global brands have been added to the stable.

Their portfolio consists of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and commercial vehicles, as well as comprehensive selection from the Chrysler and Fiat stables and from the leading Chinese manufacturer, GWM (Great Wall Motors).

All these will be on show at the Harare Auto show in exactly two weeks from today. Willowvale Mazda Motor Industries and its dealers will unleash a sophisticated beast at the 2013 edition of the Zimbabwe Motor Show. The new Mazda BT-50 has revolutionalised the one-tonne pick-up segment and is a radical departure from accepted bakkie styling, comfort and performance norms.

It is a breakthrough into entirely new territory, a pick-up that gives total truck utility combined with the looks, style and comfort of a premium passenger car.

The new BT-50 is engineered for work, leisure including family outing. I have given you a snippet of what to expect from our Toyota, Nissan, Land Rover, Foton dealerships and many more and I hope that this has whet your appetite.

There will also be an opportunity to interact with the technical staff one on one and ask them all questions which I sometimes don’t highlight in my articles.

After all, I am an enthusiast not a technical specialist. I also need help with these things.
Till next week, save the dates for the auto show, take care and God bless you.
