Harare upgrades Mbare sewer network to improve service delivery

Herald Reporter

THE City of Harare has embarked on a major sewer pipeline upgrade project in Mbare to improve the capacity, efficiency and reliability of the city’s wastewater infrastructure.

The project involves replacing about 800 metres of ageing 150mm reinforced concrete (RC) sewer pipeline with a new 315mm PVC sewer pipeline along Muchenje Street up to Jabulani Shops.

The rehabilitation works are expected to be completed by July 20, 2026.

Upon completion, the upgraded sewer line is expected to significantly improve wastewater conveyance, reduce sewer blockages and overflows, and enhance service delivery to businesses and residents served by the network.

Areas set to benefit include Stodart Complex, Jabulani Shops and properties adjoining or fronting Muchenje Street, Vito Street, Daniel Street, Chatima Street, Rusike Street, Thompson Samukange Street, Muchirahondo Street and Mlambo Street.

The project forms part of the City of Harare’s ongoing programme to rehabilitate ageing sewer infrastructure and improve the delivery of reliable, efficient and sustainable wastewater services across the capital.

Council has appealed to residents and businesses in the affected areas to cooperate with construction teams to ensure the works are completed safely and within the scheduled timeframe.
