Harare’s water supplies have improved, with areas which have gone for years without supplies now receiving water as the City of Harare continues to implement the infrastructure rehabilitation project under the US$144 million loan facility obtained from the China Import and Export Bank.
The city’s mayor, Mr Bernard Manyenyeni, said parts of Hatcliffe and Borrowdale started getting some water last week.
“It is beginning to bear fruit,” he said. “I try and visit the project every month to evaluate progress. Some of the results are being felt, parts of Hatcliffe and Borrowdale started getting some water last week.
“We will continue evaluating the project and we expect the project’s marked improvement over the next 18 months. Stakeholder interest in the project is appreciated.” Hatcliffe councillor Naboth Munyengera confirmed that they received water after several years, but said more still needs to be done.
“Yes, we received some water but council officials had promised residents that they would get uninterrupted supplies of water on Thursdays and Fridays, but that is not the situation on the ground,” he said.
