A Harare woman has been granted a protection order against her ex-lover, whom she accused of verbally abusing her, stalking and threatening to end her life.
Tafadzwa Nyamupenda told Harare Civil Court magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam last week that her ex-boyfriend Mr George Mavhurira, frequently shows up at her workplace and starts shouting at her, calling her a prostitute.
Ms Nyamupenda told the court that Mr Mavhurira began acting like this after she ended their relationship.
She also told the court that he is in the habit of following her everywhere she goes and threatens to kill her if he sees her with another man.
“Mavhurira follows me to work, church, town and sometimes I see him during late hours standing by my gate,’’ she said.
“When I tell him to go away, he starts shouting saying that he wants all the money he spent on me and everything he bought for me while we were still together.’’
Ms Nyamupenda told the court that she is living in fear and is afraid to walk around with her new lover.
“I want the court to stop Mavhurira from coming to my house and workplace because I am now living in fear,” she said.
“I am afraid if he sees me with my new boyfriend he will cause a scene and embarrass me.’’
She also told the court that Mr Mavhurira is threatening to destroy her kiosk, claiming that since he assisted her in establishing the business, he has a stake in it.
Mr Mavhurira did not refute the allegations and told the court he would leave Ms Nyamupenda alone.
Ms Narotam granted the protection order in favour of Ms Nyamupenda.
